Store Config → Disable Modules removes whole modules from the left menu for everyone; Rename Left Menu relabels the rest in your store's vocabulary. Every manage table has a per-user Column Configuration, and each employee can pick their own language and dark mode.
The left menu ships showing everything PHP Point Of Sale can do — which is more than any single store uses. A few minutes in Store Config trims the menu to your business and renames what is left in words your staff actually say, so new hires stop asking what half the entries mean. This guide also covers the per-user table layouts (custom manage views) and the settings each employee can tune for themselves.
Turn off whole modules
- Open Store Config in the left menu and click Disable Modules in the section list.
- Check the Disable box next to each module your store does not use.
- Click Save.
A disabled module vanishes from the left menu for everyone — it is not hidden behind a permission or buried in a submenu, it is simply gone. A repair shop that never delivers can turn off Deliveries; a boutique with no service bench can turn off Work Orders.
The modules you can disable are: Customers, Items, Item Kits, Price Rules, Suppliers, Reports, Receiving, Sales, Deliveries, Work Orders, Expenses, Appointments, Employees, Gift Cards, Artificial Intelligence, Invoices, Locations, Messages and Permission Requests — plus Label Designs and Receipt Template when your plan includes those designers. Store Config itself cannot be disabled — otherwise nobody could get back in to change anything.
Two notes:
- Only the primary admin account (the first employee) can re-enable a disabled module. For every other employee, the checkbox of a module that is already disabled is locked, and so is the checkbox of any module they lack permission for — they can only disable modules they have access to.
- The same section has Hover to Expand Sub-Modules (off by default): with it on, submenus under a left-menu entry open when you hover instead of waiting for a click.
This is the single best thing you can do for a new team: every entry in the menu is now something they might genuinely need to click.
Rename the menu
- Open Store Config and click Rename Left Menu in the section list.
- Each module has a text box whose placeholder shows the default name. Type your own name in the box for any module you want relabeled — leave a box blank to keep the default.
- Click Save.
If your team says "products", call the Items module Products. If your stores are branches, call Locations Branches. The renames apply everywhere the menu shows, so training materials, muscle memory, and the screen all agree. Renaming does not change what a module does — only what it is called. It shines when you move a team off another system: match the old vocabulary and the new software feels familiar on day one.
Two related renames live elsewhere in Store Config: Override Layaway Name and Override Estimate Name (under Suspended Sales/Layaways) relabel those sale types throughout the app — see suspended sales, layaways and estimates.
Choose the columns on manage screens
Every manage table — Items, Item Kits, Customers, Suppliers, Employees, and the rest — lets each user pick which columns it shows:
- Open the module's manage screen and click the gear button in the top right corner of the table.
- The Column Configuration dropdown lists every available field, including any custom fields you have defined. Check a field to show it as a column; uncheck it to hide it.
- Drag the handle icons up or down the list to rearrange the column order.
- Click Reset at the top of the dropdown to go back to the default layout.
Changes are saved automatically, per user — a manager's dense costing view and a clerk's minimal list can coexist on the same store. Because the settings follow the person, adjusting yours changes nothing for anyone else.
Let each employee tune their own view
Some choices belong to the person, not the store:
- Language — each employee's interface language is set on their employee record (Employees → edit the employee → Language), independent of the store default set in Store Config → Application Settings; with Show Language Switcher on, employees can also change it themselves from the flag picker in the top bar. The Edit profile dialog (click your name in the top-right user menu) holds their name, email, phone, username, password, switch-user PIN, and two-factor authentication — see secure sign-in, 2FA and SSO. Opening Edit profile requires the Edit profile permission in the Employees module.
- Dark Mode — a dark interface for dim counters and late closes. It can be set per employee on their record (Employees → edit the employee → Dark Mode) or store-wide under Store Config → Application Settings → Dark Mode.
- Show Language Switcher (Store Config → Application Settings, off by default) — puts a language picker in the top bar next to messages, so people can switch languages without opening their profile.
These settings follow the employee's account, so a shared register still greets each person with their own language and look.
Two store-wide appearance settings sit nearby in Application Settings: Always Minimize Left Side Bar Menu (on by default) keeps the left menu collapsed to icons, leaving more room for the sales screen, and Show Clock in Header (off by default) displays a clock on every page. See store configuration basics for the full list.
Store-wide switch or per-person permission?
There are two ways to make a module disappear, and they answer different questions:
- Disable Modules is store-wide: the module is off for everyone, because your business does not do that thing.
- Permissions are per person: the module exists, but this employee cannot see or use it — a clerk without Reports, a stock hand without Sales.
If nobody should ever see it, disable it. If only some people should, leave it enabled and use permissions and templates to control who.
A tidy menu pays off everywhere else in the app, because every screen is reached through it. If you are still learning what the modules do — and which ones your store can live without — finding your way around gives the full tour before you start switching things off.
Common questions
How do I remove a module like Deliveries from the menu for everyone? Open Store Config → Disable Modules, check Disable next to Deliveries, and click Save. It disappears from the left menu for every employee.
How do I hide a module from just one employee? That is a permission, not a module switch: edit the employee (or their template) in permissions and templates and remove access to that module.
Can I rename "Items" to "Products"? Yes — Store Config → Rename Left Menu, type "Products" in the Items box, and Save. The new name shows everywhere the menu does.
Why can't I disable Store Config? It is deliberately not on the list — disabling it would lock everyone out of settings, including the switch to turn modules back on.
I hid a column on the Items list — did I hide it for my coworkers too? No. Column Configuration is saved per user. Each person arranges their own tables; click Reset in the gear dropdown to restore the defaults.
How does an employee get the app in Spanish while the store runs in English? An admin sets their language on their employee record (Employees → edit the employee → Language) — it only affects that employee's sign-in. Enabling Show Language Switcher in Application Settings lets them change it themselves from the top-bar picker.
Where is dark mode? Per person: Employees → edit the employee → Dark Mode. Store-wide: Store Config → Application Settings → Dark Mode.
I disabled a module by accident and its checkbox is greyed out — why? Only the primary admin account can re-enable it. Ask the primary admin to open Disable Modules and uncheck it.
