CardConnect setup

CardConnect is a cloud-friendly EMV integration with no Windows listener. Enter the Merchant ID, Rest Username and Rest Password from your enrollment letter on the location, then map each terminal to its register with the HSN shown on the terminal's screen.

CardConnect (a Fiserv company) is an EMV terminal integration that needs no local software: the terminals talk to CardConnect's cloud, so there is no Windows listener to babysit and the setup is just credentials plus a terminal-to-register mapping. CardConnect provides the terminal hardware as part of enrollment and determines which machine you need, and your enrollment letter carries every value used below. If you are still comparing options, start with choosing a payment processor.

Configure the location

  1. Go to Locations and click Edit next to the location that will take cards.
  2. In the Integrations section, check Enable Credit Card Processing.
  3. Set Credit Card Processor to CardConnect.
  4. Enter the Merchant ID exactly as shown on your enrollment letter.
  5. Enter the Rest Username and Rest Password from the same letter — these are the API credentials CardConnect issued for your account, not your portal login.
  6. Click Submit.

Map each terminal to its register

Every CardConnect terminal has an HSN (hardware serial number), and the POS needs to know which terminal sits at which register:

  1. Power the terminal and read the HSN off the terminal's screen.
  2. On the location form, find the register's row in the Registers table and type that value into the CardConnect HSN column.
  3. Repeat for each register and its terminal, then click Submit.

Because the HSN lives on the register, every register drives its own terminal, and tips at the terminal follow the register's Enable Tips setting in the same table.

Editing locations requires the Locations module permission on your employee account — see permissions and templates. Integrated processing also requires the POS to be served over HTTPS.

Settings reference

  • Enable Credit Card Processing — master switch, off by default.
  • Credit Card Processor — set to CardConnect.
  • Merchant ID — from the enrollment letter.
  • Rest Username / Rest Password — the API credentials from the enrollment letter; treat the password like any other secret.
  • Per register in the Registers table: CardConnect HSN (from the terminal's screen) and Enable Tips.

After setup

Ring a small test sale and pay with Credit/Debit — the terminal mapped to your register wakes with the exact amount for chip, tap or swipe. Everyday card flows — tips, voids, refunds, unconfirmed-transaction recovery — are in taking card payments; the shared setup concepts (per-location configuration, HTTPS, backup gateway) are in setting up credit card processing.

Common questions

Where do I find the HSN? On the terminal itself — it is displayed on the device's screen (and usually printed on a label on the device). Enter it in the register's CardConnect HSN column exactly as shown.

Do I need to install anything on my computer? No. CardConnect terminals communicate with CardConnect's cloud directly, so there is no Windows listener or driver — any machine with a browser works.

The terminal never wakes when I choose Credit/Debit. Check that the sale's register is the one whose row carries that terminal's HSN, that the terminal is powered and online, and that the Merchant ID, Rest Username and Rest Password were entered exactly as on the enrollment letter. Register selection is covered in registers and cash management.

Can each register have its own terminal? Yes — that is exactly what the per-register HSN column is for. One location can run as many terminals as it has registers.

What hardware can I buy? CardConnect supplies and provisions the terminals as part of enrollment; they determine the model. Contact CardConnect at 877-828-0720 for devices and replacements.

Do refunds and voids go back through the terminal? Run them from the original sale in the POS and the reversal goes to the same card through CardConnect. See taking card payments.
