Worldpay (formerly Vantiv, formerly Mercury) is a legacy integration kept for existing merchants. It supports three connection styles — a VX 805 EMV terminal driven by Datacap NETePay on Windows, browser-based Hosted Checkout, and the network-attached IP Tran Cloud device.
This is a legacy integration. Mercury Payment Systems was renamed Vantiv and is now Worldpay; PHP Point Of Sale no longer offers new merchant enrollments on this processor. If you are setting up card processing for the first time, use PHP POS Payments instead — see choosing a payment processor. The integration remains in the software, so existing Worldpay / Vantiv / Mercury merchants can keep processing, and everything below still applies to them.
The integration supports three different connection styles, and the software picks the right one automatically from what you have configured on the location and register:

Choose the right processor option
Open Locations, click Edit next to the location, open the Integrations section, and check Enable Credit Card Processing. In the Credit Card Processor dropdown there are two related entries:
- Worldpay (Formally Vantiv/Mercury) — the original Mercury/Vantiv rail. Choose this if your account began as Mercury or Vantiv. It is the only option that also supports Hosted Checkout and IP Tran Cloud.
- Worldpay — the classic Worldpay EMV rail. Choose this if your enrollment letter came from Worldpay directly. It supports the VX 805 + Datacap path only.
Your setup sheet or the processor's technical support can confirm which rail your merchant account is on. Everything else on the location form works the same for both.
EMV terminal setup (VX 805 + Datacap NETePay)
This is the countertop chip-and-PIN path. It requires a Microsoft Windows machine next to the terminal, and the Datacap software must be running at all times — if the listener or NETePay is closed, card processing stops.
1. Install the bundled software
- Download the installer for your rail — the Vantiv/Mercury bundle or the Worldpay bundle — from the link in your enrollment material, or ask support for the current download.
- Double-click the executable and follow the on-screen prompts. The default values, including the installation directory and the listener port of 3333, almost never need to be changed.
- Restart the computer when the installer finishes. The software launches automatically after the restart.
The bundle installs three components: the device driver for the VX 805 terminal, the Datacap dsiPDCX / dsiEMVUS listener (the local service the browser talks to), and the Datacap NETePay client (which talks to the processor).
Your firewall must allow traffic on port 9000 for NETePay, and a working internet connection is required.
2. Set up NETePay
- Double-click the NETePay icon on the desktop if it is not already open.
- On first launch NETePay asks to obtain a serial number from Datacap's PSCS (Payment Systems Configuration Server). Click Obtain Serial Number — a 10-digit serial number is assigned automatically. Click OK, then OK again on the dialog saying merchant parameters have not been retrieved yet.
- Choose Setup → Merchant Parameters, click Load New Parameters, then Yes.
- Click I have my DeploymentID and enter the Deployment ID given to you by the processor's technical support (or by PHP Point Of Sale support), then click OK. If you never received a Deployment ID, contact support so the merchant parameters can be created on the PSCS server first.
- Verify the merchant demographic data NETePay displays. If it is wrong, click Cancel and start step 3 again; if it is right, click Yes, This is the Correct Merchant.
- Click OK back through to the main status window. NETePay is now ready to process.
3. Configure the location
- Go to Locations and click Edit next to the location.
- Check Enable Credit Card Processing and set Credit Card Processor to your rail (see above).
- Enter the EMV Merchant ID / Terminal ID exactly as printed on your setup sheet.
- Leave COM port at its default of 9 and Listener port at its default of 3333 unless your installer told you otherwise.
- Leave Net E-Pay Server empty unless NETePay runs on a different machine than this register — in that case enter that machine's address.
- Leave EMV Device Override and Non EMV Device Override empty unless your setup sheet names a specific device string (some enrollments use overrides such as
EMV_VX805_GLOBALPAY; TSYS-style overrides are covered in TSYS setup). - Click Submit to save, then click Initialize credit card reader. Initialization can take one to two minutes; wait for the success message before ringing a sale.
Hosted Checkout setup (browser payments, no pin pad)
Hosted Checkout takes the payment in a secure browser window instead of on a countertop EMV device. Card entry is keyed or via a MagTek USB swipe reader. Two things to know about how the software chooses it: mobile browsers always use Hosted Checkout (there is no mobile EMV support on this rail), and desktop browsers fall back to Hosted Checkout whenever the EMV Merchant ID / COM port / Listener port trio is not filled in.
1. Generate the password in the Vantiv portal
- Watch for the welcome letter emailed by Mercury/Vantiv; it contains your portal User ID. The password arrives in a separate email.
- Sign in to the Vantiv Integrated Payments portal (portal.mercurypay.com).
- Open Account Settings.
- Under Hosted Checkout Password Management, select the terminal you are setting up and click Continue.
- Click Generate Password, then click Save at the bottom — the password is not stored until you save.
The portal is also where you view monthly statements, full transaction history, and batch totals by date and card type, for one store or a whole chain.
2. Enter the credentials in PHP Point Of Sale
- Go to Locations, click Edit next to the location, and check Enable Credit Card Processing with the processor set to Worldpay (Formally Vantiv/Mercury).
- Enter the Hosted checkout Merchant ID.
- Paste the generated password into Mercury Generated Password. The field's own note reminds you where it lives: the Account Settings area of Mercury's website, under HostedCheckout Password Management.
- Click Submit. You can now process cards from any browser.
IP Tran Cloud setup (shared network terminal)
The IP Tran Cloud device sits on your network so that any device on the same network — an iPad, a tablet, a PC — can drive one credit card terminal. No Windows listener is needed.
1. Connect the hardware
- Connect the power cable to the IP Tran device.
- Connect an Ethernet cable between the IP Tran device and your router.
- Connect the serial cable between the IP Tran device and the credit card terminal.
- Connect the terminal's power cable to the outlet.
2. Configure the register
- Go to Locations, click Edit next to the location, and check Enable Credit Card Processing with the processor set to Worldpay (Formally Vantiv/Mercury).
- In the Registers table, enter the IP Tran Device ID from the device paperwork on the row for the register that will use it. Do not enter a merchant ID in the EMV field unless Vantiv specifically tells you to.
- In the Card Reader Actions column of that row, click Initialize credit card reader. This can take a couple of minutes. The Update Params link in the same column re-downloads the device parameters when support asks you to.
Because the IP Tran Device ID lives on the register, each register can point at its own device.
Location and register settings reference
- Enable Credit Card Processing — master switch for integrated processing at this location. Off by default.
- Credit Card Processor — the rail: Worldpay (Formally Vantiv/Mercury) or Worldpay.
- EMV Merchant ID / Terminal ID — from your setup sheet; filling it (with the two ports) selects the EMV path on desktop.
- COM port — default 9.
- Listener port — default 3333.
- Net E-Pay Server — only set if NETePay was not installed on this machine.
- Integrated Gift Cards — check if your merchant account includes processor gift cards; see gift cards.
- EMV Device Override / Non EMV Device Override — device string overrides; leave empty unless your setup sheet names one. They also exist per register for mixed hardware.
- Hosted checkout Merchant ID / Mercury Generated Password — the Hosted Checkout credentials.
- Disable Amount Confirmation when processing credit card — skips the amount confirmation prompt before the terminal takes over.
- Use Integrated EBT — enables EBT tenders through the terminal where the merchant account supports it.
- Per register: Terminal ID, Enable Tips, EMV Device Override, Non EMV Device Override, IP Tran Device ID, Pin Pad IP, Pin Pad Port, and the Card Reader Actions links (Update Params / Initialize credit card reader).
Editing locations requires the Locations module permission on your employee account — see permissions and templates. Integrated processing also requires the POS to be served over HTTPS.
VX 805 terminal troubleshooting
If Initialize credit card reader fails with "Unable to initialize device", first confirm the Datacap listener and NETePay are running, the terminal has power, and the cable path to the PC is intact. If the device still will not initialize, reconfigure the terminal for USB from its system menu:
- Reboot the terminal and press F2 and F4 together when the boot screen appears to enter the System Menu.
- Enter the password Z66831 (press 1, alpha, alpha, then 66831) and press the green Enter key. On newer Vantiv pin pads type 166831 instead.
- On the VERIX TERMINAL MGR screen, press 2 (Edit Parameters).
- At the GID 1 prompt press the green Enter key, enter the password again, and press Enter.
- On the File Config Sys screen press the green Enter key.
- Press 1 for NEW, enter COMMPORT as the parameter, press Enter, and give it the value U (the value 1 would mean serial), then press Enter.
- Press 1 for NEW again, enter #CZE as the parameter, press Enter, and give it the value 1, then press Enter.
- Press the red Cancel key to exit, then press 1 to restart the device, and initialize again from the location form.
If the pin pad stops responding mid-transaction ("no response from pin pad"), power-cycle the terminal, confirm the Windows machine did not sleep, and initialize again.
Sharing a PC's internet with an Ethernet card reader
If a reader needs a wired network connection and no Ethernet port is free near the counter, a Windows PC can share its own connection:
- Click the search bar at the bottom left of Windows, type Control Panel, and open the Control Panel app.
- Under Network and Internet, choose View network status and tasks.
- Click Change adapter settings in the left menu.
- Right-click the connection the PC itself uses for internet (for example Wi-Fi) and choose Properties.
- On the Sharing tab, check Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection, pick the Ethernet port you will plug the reader into under Home networking connection, and click OK.
- Plug the reader into that Ethernet port. It now gets its internet through the PC.
After setup
Ring a small test sale and pay with Credit/Debit — the terminal (or the Hosted Checkout window) wakes with the exact amount. Common questions
Is Worldpay / Vantiv / Mercury still supported? The integration still works for existing merchants and remains selectable in the software, but PHP Point Of Sale no longer offers new enrollments on this processor. New stores should use PHP POS Payments.
Which dropdown option do I pick — "Worldpay (Formally Vantiv/Mercury)" or "Worldpay"? Pick Worldpay (Formally Vantiv/Mercury) if your account started life as Mercury or Vantiv (and always if you use Hosted Checkout or IP Tran Cloud). Pick Worldpay if you enrolled with Worldpay directly on the classic EMV rail.
Why does my iPad always open a browser payment window instead of the pin pad? Mobile browsers always use Hosted Checkout on this rail — there is no mobile EMV support. To drive a real terminal from an iPad, use the IP Tran Cloud device instead.
Do I need the Windows PC on all the time? For the EMV terminal path, yes: NETePay and the Datacap listener must be running whenever you take cards. Hosted Checkout and IP Tran Cloud do not need any Windows software.
"Unable to initialize device" — what do I check first? That NETePay and the listener are running, the COM port matches (default 9), the listener port matches (default 3333), port 9000 is open in the firewall, and the terminal has power. Then follow the VX 805 troubleshooting steps above to reset the terminal's COMMPORT parameter to USB.
I generated a Hosted Checkout password but payments are declined with an authentication error. Make sure you clicked Save in the Vantiv portal after generating the password — an unsaved password is not active — and that the password pasted into Mercury Generated Password has no leading or trailing spaces.
Can different registers use different terminals? Yes. Terminal IDs, IP Tran Device IDs, pin pad IP/port values and device overrides are all set per register in the Registers table on the location form.
Where do refunds and voids go? Back through the same integration to the same card — run them from the original sale. See taking card payments.
