Dor foot traffic

Link a Dor people-counting account to your locations and your sales reports gain foot traffic, conversion rate and average transaction value alongside the numbers they already show.

Sales figures tell you what people bought. They do not tell you how many people walked in and left with nothing. Dor makes battery-powered people counters that measure exactly that, and PHP Point Of Sale can pull those counts in and put them next to your own sales numbers.

The Dor Foot Traffic section of Store Config, with the Dor Team ID and Dor API Key fields

The result is a conversion rate — the share of visitors who bought something — and an average transaction value (ATV), on the same screens you already read.

What you need

  • A Dor account with at least one sensor installed and reporting.
  • Your Dor Team ID and API Key, both found in your Dor dashboard under Administration.

Connect your Dor account

  1. Go to Store Config in the left navigation menu and open the Dor Foot Traffic section.
  2. Enter your Dor Team ID and Dor API Key.
  3. Click Save.

That connects the account. Nothing appears on a report yet — the connection has to know which Dor sensor belongs to which of your stores.

  1. Go to Locations and edit a location.
  2. Open its Integrations tab.
  3. Choose the matching Dor Location from the dropdown.
  4. Click Save.

Repeat for every location that has a sensor. Locations without one are simply left unlinked and behave exactly as before.

If the dropdown cannot load — Could not load locations from Dor — the Team ID or API Key in Store Config is wrong, or Dor is unreachable. You can type the Dor location ID in by hand instead, but it is worth fixing the credentials first.

Relinking a location to a different Dor location, or moving to a different Dor team, is safe: PHP Point Of Sale records which Dor location produced each stored figure, so it refetches rather than showing you the old sensor's numbers under the new link.

Where the numbers show up

There is no separate Dor report to open. The metrics are added to screens you already use.

Home dashboard — a Foot Traffic (Dor) — Last 7 Days widget for the location you are logged in to, showing Foot Traffic, Transactions, Revenue, Conversion Rate and ATV. A location with no Dor link shows Dor is not configured for this location.

Reports — three reports gain the same columns for the period you are running:

  • Sales → Summary Reports
  • the same summary with List Each Location Separately turned on
  • Sales → Summary Journal

See running reports and sales and closeout reports for those reports themselves.

The columns only appear once foot-traffic data has actually been retrieved for the locations in the report. Configuring the integration is not enough on its own — until the first data comes back from Dor, the reports look exactly as they did before. This is deliberate: an empty column is worse than no column.

Reading the numbers

  • Foot Traffic — visitors counted by the sensor.
  • Transactions — completed sales at that location for the same period.
  • Revenue — the value of those sales.
  • Conversion Rate — transactions divided by foot traffic. A day with heavy traffic and a low conversion rate usually means staffing, queueing or stock, not demand.
  • ATV — average transaction value: revenue divided by transactions. Worth watching against conversion rate; a promotion that lifts conversion but drops ATV may not be worth running again.

Compare like with like. A Saturday and a Tuesday are different businesses, so trends over the same weekday tell you more than a raw week-on-week difference.

Common questions

The dropdown of Dor locations is empty or errors. Check the Dor Team ID and Dor API Key under Store Config → Dor Foot Traffic. Both come from the Administration area of your Dor dashboard, and both have to be saved before the location form can query Dor.

I linked a location but the report columns are missing. The columns appear once data has been retrieved for the locations in that report. Give it a little time after linking, and check that the report's date range covers days on which the sensor was actually reporting.

Foot traffic looks far higher than expected. That is a Dor question rather than a PHP Point Of Sale one — sensor placement, a doorway counted twice, or staff walking in and out. PHP Point Of Sale reports the count Dor gives it.

Does this send my sales data to Dor? No. The traffic goes one way: PHP Point Of Sale reads counts from Dor and combines them with your own sales locally.
