Using Square Payment for cc processing

If you're looking for a different processor, you'll see that Square Payment is able to be used with PHP POS. I decided to go that route for processing, realizing that I'd need to change over to an iPad to run PHP. They gave me a decent quote for processing fees, and I liked the idea of just a flat, predictable rate. I was also interested in seeing how an iPad worked for using a POS, and the cost of the Square Stand and credit card machine was very reasonable.

The one thing that took me by surprise was with the receipt printers - you CAN use a USB printer with the Square app on the iPad if you have the Square Stand hardware, but you can NOT use that same printer for anything else, e.g., PHP. The last thing I expected was to be told that all I needed to use Square Payment with PHP was to have an iPad and the Square Retail app - and then find out that I needed more new equipment after all.

It seems that the situation wouldn't be any different for a former Square POS user changing to PHP POS - if they had been using a USB receipt printer, it simply wouldn't work with PHP.

Yeah, I'll be getting the new printer, but be aware of this if you're going to Square Payment. And be aware that you won't get any support from PHP about it (I've had 3 support requests ignored now) beyond needing a wireless or bluetooth printer.

Bob,

As stated the square stand is a square only integration. They control the hardware. We cannot directly integrate with their hardware.

In order to NOT create separate hardware for our printing we decided to go with a network/bluetooth printer.

Thanks for the clarification. There had been no mention of the hardware being "Square only". I guess that makes the USB port not really a USB port, other than in physical appearance. That helps in understanding the situation.
