Speed up search queries changes numer of items in database?

Marc

Hi,

We have currently 12811 active items in system. When I enable "Speed up search queries?" in config it does seem to speed up search queries but admin always shows 30000 items in count at the top of screen. Even if in a small category. Also, if I go into deleted items it also shows 30000.  Is this normal?  It did this in the 16.5 build I had installed so I decided to test the 17.0 build. Duplicated our system on my test machine. Upgraded to 17.0. Still does the same thing.

Also, seeing an odd thing. We stock a product line from a manufacturer (several hundreds of items). There is a subset of items that are considered "Basic Stockist" that we need to pull weekly stock counts on. We named all these products with the prefix "BS - "  (I know it looks dumb but that's what they call it). For a long time we could always type that into admin search box or Sales and those items would list.  Now it seems we can no longer pull those items in any way by that alpha string.  I was hoping the new "Contains" in the custom report would let me pull them but it seems that even with new functionality the custom report field still does an item search and wont let you search on a partial name.  I would think the "Contains" functionality should let you search on a partial?

The 30,000 is expected as it doesn't count how many results there are (which speeds up searching). If it starts with BS- and you are NOT using enhanced search method (store config), that should work.

Thank You! Turning off Enhanced search did return the functionality for the search we needed.  Enabling the speed up search queries does indeed speed up queries but I notice if it's enabled the "column sort" functions at the top of the item lists in admin no longer function?  Is that normal? I am running 17.0 build from 7/23

It is normal that speed up disables that feature. It is for performance
