Integration with Clover in Canada

I need some help with integrating this payment API from clover into PHPPOS. They have a java based API to directly connect via web socket to a local network attached payment device.

I've been playing with the API and I can successfully pair the device and process a transaction in a test scenario. But I am struggling in how to incorporate this into the POS so a credit/debit sale pushes to the payment device and processes the response.

I am a little out of my league and would like some help if anybody would like to help me out.
