Some of my clients in our rewards program have keychain tags with barcodes on them. This barcode number is currently set to the customer's Account # in PHP POS.
I have a separate barcode scanner set out on the counter for clients to scan their keychain tag when making a purchase. However if they do it without telling the clerk it scans to the item # field causing an error. Clerk has to move the cursor over to the Customer info field before the client can scan.
.....But then I was thinking, why not add an option in configuration to also search the Item # field for customer Account numbers? The barcode used on my keychain tags is 13 digits but uses a non-standard format so it's impossible for any of my products to have the same UPC code as one of my clients. This would save the clerk from having to switch over and the client can just scan their keychain tag at anytime while they are being rung up.
If enabled, first search the item list for the entered number as usual. If none found, next search the customer list for the entered number and if found, attach the customer record to the sale.
